and may I add SUPER INSPIRING for all us boring corporate retail people. I always see what you are doing and question my intensions with my career. hmmm.
well have a wonderful newyears. be safe and keep us updated on what you are up to.
cheers-

Dear Andrea,
Sorry to hear your knee is still causing you trouble. I hope it's back to normal soon.
I wanted to write to you at some point about how you're conceiving your photographs as ethnography, which I assume it what is intended by the project images. Are you writing the accompanying text? Are the anthropologists? What are the respective functions of the pictures and the text? Who is your projected audience? And are you going to give us either on the website or in the book or film, some in-depth archaeological background on Inca farming and pre-Columbian religion and society or on present culture, economics and politics as they affect the farming practices you're seeking to change? I'm sure you've thought about this, but I wanted to know what you'd decided so I could look at the pictures with that in mind. I think photographing the sort of thing you're doing is very tricky. How do you report the fact of what is going on, the practices being used, and the society and culture that are their context? The balance between document and aesthetic is always so difficult. Salgado's migration pictures, for example, were gorgeous, but I sometimes had no idea what he was reporting, what I'm supposed to be learning from the image. Anyway, those were my thoughts.
Happy New Year to you and to all the members of the Project.
Ruth

the photos are amazing! i mean, you could always work on the text, but i wouldn't worry about it for now. it's charming and fun and the photos are so sososo so beautiful....

I loved your photos, it was so neat to read about your travels and experiences in Andamarca. What an incredible time. You have a great eye and you have obviously taken fantastic images. Congratulations!
When do you plan on heading back for the documentary and more photo part of the project?
Best,
Agnes
(Agnes--we are hoping to see the planting season in mid-October)

Your llama photo lifts my spirit, your dance competition with the firework grass display makes me want to jump up and down, your pictures of the mud onthe face is perfection, animals everywhere makes me love knowing you, the light in the window with the people peeking in makes me feel like I was part of the moment, the landscapes actually capture scale, your light...as always...is soft and illuminating without being intrusive. I am so proud of you.
Of course send me more!
Amy

wow, thanks for all the pictures and description! very vivid. Zeke

This looks tremendously exciting! I am very much interested in being kept tuned in to your project, but can't get to your 2MB e-mails quick enough to be part of this round of dissemination; I can't let these big e-mails sit in my mailbox until I have time to dowload them. Please let me know when this is available on the website! I will look forward to seeing more of this. Thanks!!!
Carol

Your work is very professional, adventurous, & impressive. Congratulations. My little brother Nicky just got back from shooting video in Kashmir for a month. It's going to take him at least the rest of the year to edit. I forwarded him your email. Thanks for the beautiful pictures. Those llamas are just so cute.
Chris

Way cool, gringa. I shared with Missy. It is so great to get this snapshot of that strange and exotic land. It is also wonderful to see my 'back-to-nature' side lived out in the real world.
Dad (of Andrea)

Ruth

What an incredible thing you're doing - and the pictures are so wonderful and so interesting. I really can't wait to hear more about it. You must have so many new stories to share. I know you're only back for a month, but if you feel like taking a train ride to the coutry, let me know!!! We've moved up by Peekskill.... If not a train ride, perhaps we can meet for lunch sometime? I can't wait to see you!
